A lot of people wonder what is the best mounting option for kitesurfing videos. Some like mounting the camera high on the kite, some use the dedicated line mounts that GoPro sell but I usually like to mount the camera either on my helmet or directly to the board. Since the GoPro is shooting with a very wide angle, mounting the camera high on the kite (which is around 27 meters height ) will not give you the best results – the subject (the surfer in this case) will be too far and too small. Using the line mount will give you a better perspective but is much more dangerous in case something is wrong!
Setting the camera on your helmet will give a nice perspective, a good shot of your surfing style and jumps and tricks. With the camera set on the board you will get the perfect angle of yourself surfing. Since the board is really bouncy, don’t forget to tight up the screws and to be better safe than sorry, just find a nice place on the board to attach the camera’s safety leash.
